Summer Reading Program 2023

This year's theme is: All Together Now : Todos Juntos Ahora – Kindness/Friendship/ Unity. We met every Wednesday in the month of June at the, Our promise Youth Academy. Included are 2 pictures one for each week, we averaged 104 participants weekly. The first week Ms. Sarah read 2 books and had a discussion of self love and friendship. We made friendship bracelets to keep or give away. The 2nd week, Ms. Michelle Cooper was our guest and she also read a book and showed the children some video clips on water safety. The children made, 'Life Preservers,' with water safety rules written on it. The 3rd week Mr. Rick and Sari Overman showed us their, Lion head and Lop rabbits.

GEM BRADY CHILDRESS OCTOBER 29, 1943 - JUNE 29, 2023

Gem Brady Childress, beloved husband, father and “Grandad,” passed away at the age of 79 on June 29, 2023, in Sugar Land, TX, after courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease. Gem was born in Lubbock, TX, on October 29, 1943, to Oleta and Brady James “Skeet” Childress. Gem is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy (Timmons) Childress, and his sons Trent Childress (and Jennifer) of Georgetown, and Kirk Childress (and Kelly) of Sugar Land. He took great pleasure in his four grandsons: Brady (and Reagan) Childress, Luke Childress, Wyatt Childress, and Will Childress.
