I’m always saddened to see some churches practice their religion under a heavy cloak of condemnation. I recently attended a funeral at one such church. It wasn’t my first time so the shock and sadness of what I witnessed wasn’t as heavy as before; but I left there thinking how similar I once was in my own thinking about sin and acceptance.

The Brownfield baseball team returns one of the most if not the most experienced teams in the entire district. With everyone on the roster having at least one year of experience under their belt. The Cubs are going look to use this to their advantage during district play. Brownfield was involved in three different tournaments early in the season, the Railyard classic in Lubbock, the Lamesa Cotton Classic, and the Greenwood Classic facing very stout competition in all three tournaments. They’ve also played in games against Fort Stockton, Big Spring, Sundown, Lubbock Christian, and Abernathy. They will also take on Colorado City, and Sweetwater before they kickoff district play. During district play they begin with Littlefield on the road, then they’re home for a game against Muleshoe. Following the Muleshoe game is the annual Alumni game then its right back to business on the road against Denver City. Brownfield will next be home for two against Lamesa and Littlefield. Next they’ll take the return trip to Muleshoe and the Cubs will then host New Home for a one game break from district play before finally rounding out their regular season at home against Denver City then on the road against Lamesa. The Brownfield Cubs have all the tools they need to make a real run at the district championship some even say its theirs to lose. But ultimately as district play is around the corner its going to come down to playing errorless baseball, a problem that has plagued the Cubs in seasons past. If the errors are indeed reduced then you can almost expect a district championship for the Brownfield Cubs.

Over the weekend the Brownfield Cub baseball team welcomed the Abernathy Antelopes to town for Military Appreciation Day but unfortunately fell in a tight one in the closing innings 9- 8. Abernathy had an opportunity early to get runs on the board taking advantage of a leadoff walk. A wild pitch advanced the runner to second and the runner would be brought in with an RBI double to make the score 1-0 but one was all they could as Nathan Herrera was able to work out of the jam. Brownfield was able to answer right back in the bottom half of the first as they loaded up the bases with no outs, unfortunately Jonathan Romero grounded into a double play that didn’t result in a run so now there were two outs with runners on second and third.

The Brownfield Lady Cubs are in full swing of their first season under Coach Breanna Guerrero who was previously at New Home. She inherits a talented group that returns the core of their roster from last year highlighted by Sadie Garcia, Priya Silva, Millie Castillo, Malorie Martinez, Kenley Salas, Jackie Castillo, Gracie Hernandez, and Brianne Franco. Mix in a couple of freshmen, as well as players who were on JV last year making the step up to the Varsity level and the Lady Cubs are in a nice position to compete to be one of the top teams in their district a district that includes Denver City, Lamesa, Littlefield, and Muleshoe. Brownfield has participated in three different tournaments including their own, those others being in Midland, and Slaton. The Non-District schedule also including games against Forsan, Abernathy, Colorado City, and Shallowater. The Lady Cubs haven’t been in action since March 11 th but get ready for the most important part of their season as they will have already began district play with Denver City in town Tuesday, March 21 st after the deadline of printing. The Lady Cubs then hit the road for two in a row against Lamesa and Littlefield rounded out by hosting Muleshoe. Then begins the second half of district where they’ll visit Denver City, host Lamesa and Littlefield, then ending the regular season on the road against Muleshoe.
