The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

The book begins with a journal entry in Alicia Berenson’s diary. Throughout the book there are several more entries, however she is not the main character. The main character is a psychotherapist named Theo Faber. He is Alicia’s therapist in the physiatric care center to which she's been admitted. Six years ago, Alicia Berenson shot her husband, Gabriel, in the face six times and then attempted to commit suicide. She never spoke again. Not at her trial, not to her lawyer, and not when she was charged with Gabriel’s murder. Theo Faber does not think that Alicia is guilty of the murder, but how is he to know what truly happened that night if Alicia is mute? Along with her journal entries throughout the book, the mystery is slowly unraveled. The end is destined to go down as one of the most shocking twists in literary history. Will Alicia ever speak again is not the question- but what will she say when she does?
