After a loss the last time out the Brownfield Runnin’ Cubs looked to get back to their winning ways Friday night against Lamesa and they did just that with their 61-57 win over the Golden Tornadoes. Brownfield was once again shorthanded on Friday night as they were without the services of Quavience Busby, Trae Timmins, and Brason Salas. Kaden McPherson did make his return to action but saw limited minutes in his first game back. After one quarter of play it was Lamesa who saw themselves with a 12-11 lead due to a slow start for the Runnin’Cubs. A jolt of offense in the second quarter helped Brownfield take a 28-20 lead into the locker room. Coming out of the break Brownfield maintained their lead but Lamesa wasn’t going down easy as it was 45-40 going into the final frame of play. The fourth quarter was an intense one for both sides as Lamesa continued to scratch and claw their way to stay in the game and keep Brownfield on their toes but ultimately their comeback was spoiled as Brownfield won the game 61-57. Jeron Lawrence notched another double-double on the season with 25 points and 16 rebounds which is a career high for himself. George Rivera finished with 9 points, while KJ Carroll, and JoJo Carrillo both chipped in with 8 points themselves. The Lamesa Lady Golden Tornadoes’ offensive surges in the opening and final quarter guided them to a 31-24 win over the Brownfield Lady Cubs Friday. The Lady Tornadoes’ offense came out red hot to outscore the Lady Cubs 15-2 to take the lead after the opening quarter. The Lady Cubs’ defensive adjustments paid off in the second quarter to hold the Lady Tornadoes to a single basket and Cut Lamesa’s lead to 17-7 heading into the second half. The Lady Cubs began to find a rhythm after the break to cut Lamesa’s lead to 1914 heading into the final quarter. The Lady Tornadoes answered back in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Cubs 12-10 to hold off Brownfield for the 31-24 victory. Alliey Coffey led the Lady Cubs with eight points, Amery Pauda led with two assists, Mariah Perez led with eigh rebounds and Audry Davis led with five steals.

Last Thursday, the Brownfield Spirit of the Plains band traveled to Abernathy for the Regional auditions. Both Brownfield High School and Brownfield Middle School students shined at the auditions. Three Spirit of the Plains members made the Honor band, includingAubree Valenzuela (Trumpet), who also became an area qualifier, Braden Conn (Euphonium), who also became and area qualifier, and Briana Villarreal (Clarinet). Four other Spirit of the Plains members made the 3A/4A region band, including Olivia Perez (Clarinet), Isabella Cruz (Clarinet), Ethan A. Rodriguez and Laibyn Alvarado (Trombone).

The Brownfield ISD Board of Trustees met Monday to discuss topics on the agenda but the longest discussions centered around the elections. Following the invocation by Cat Gonzalez and the pledges, the Board of Trustees began the meeting by doing the recognition portion of the superintendent's report.
