Memorial services for Ysmael H. Vela will be held on Thursday March 19, 2020 at 2pm at Victory Worship Center in Brownfield, TX with Pastor Jimmy Vela officiating. Ysmo passed away, peacefully March 14, 2020 after an onset battle of cancer in his loving home. He was born on August 16, 1941 to Lorenzo and Barbra Vela in Yorktown, Tx. Ysmo married the love of his life Soveida Guzman on Mother’s Day, May 8, 1961 in Wharton, Tx. He was an amazing husband, loving father, grandfather, and a caring uncle, cousin, and friend. He was definitely a jokester. Always making someone laugh. Most importantly a God fearing and giving man who loved unconditionally. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lorenzo and Barbra Vela, 2 brothers, Domingo and Manuel Vela, 2 sisters, Criselda Gonzales and Palmira Puente, and 1 grandson, Jay Vela. Ysmo is survived by wife Soveida Vela of Brownfield, 5 children Jimmy and wife Janie Vela of Lubbock, Susan Olivan and husband John of Dallas, Eloy and wife Betty Vela of Brownfield, Mickie Vela and Vickie Vela Marroquin of Brownfield. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Read moreThe Brownfield Lady Cubs took to the diamond Saturday afternoon, possibly for the last time this season. The Lady Cubs hosted Slaton in both teams’ second district game. The Lady Cubs would find themselves down pretty quick as a Tigerette would knock one over the fence for a home run, making the early score 1-0 in the first inning. The Lady Cubs would respond in the bottom of the first with a score of their own, bringing the score 1-1.
Read moreThe Brownfield Cubs tennis team traveled to San Antonio for the TTCA 3A and Under State Team Tennis Tournament on March 6 and 7. Brownfield was returning to this tournament for the second consecutive year, after finishing 9th in the state at last year’s tournament. The Cubs drew a first round matchup against a tough Kirbyville squad. Doubles jumped on the court first for the two teams and the Brownfield Lady Cubs helped secure a 4-3 for the team.
