Mary Johnson Josselet, peacefully went home to Jesus, with her daughter Sarah holding her hand, on Tuesday morning, January 26, 2021. Mary lived an incredible, love-filled life, to the beautiful age of 98. Mary was best known as “Mom” and “Granma”. Mary was born January 5, 1923 in Stamford, Texas to Murray and Sallye Johnson. Mary attended and graduated from Haskell High School. On August 6, 1939, Mary and Marion Jesse Josselet joined their lives in matrimony in Archer City. Mary’s pride and joy, her daughters, Carolyn Norman and Sarah Josselet, were born in 1941 and 1951, respectively. During World War II, she started working at the General Telephone Company. In 1959, Marion and Mary moved to Brownfield, Texas where she continued to work at the phone company, GTE, until the office was automated and closed. At that time, she retired from GTE, after 33 years at the company. Marion died in 1999 and Mary moved to Marble Falls to live close to her youngest daughter Sarah. Mary was a devout Christian and attended the First Baptist Church in Haskell, Brownfield, and Marble Falls. In 2005, she moved close to her oldest daughter Carolyn, to an assisted living facility in Fort Worth. In Fort Worth, Mary and Carolyn attended Southcliff Baptist Church. After the death of Carolyn, in October 2017, the family moved her back to Marble Falls, closer to Sarah, to Granite Mesa Health Center, where she received wonderful care by the staff. The family appreciates the everyone at Granite Mesa for their love and compassion for our Granma. They treated her like family until her death, caused by complications from Covid. We can’t thank Granite Mesa’s staff enough for their sacrifice, hard work and special care. Mary studied piano and organ for 12 years, during school, and was very talented, playing at church, graduations, funerals, and other events with her lifelong friend, Jean Connors Buford, who was the singer, hailing from Haskell, now Weatherford. Mary and Jean returned to Haskell for many high school reunions and were the only two remaining in their graduating class. She also loved her pets and had numerous beloved dogs and cats throughout the years. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Marion Josselet, daughter Carolyn Norman, parents, Murray and Sallye Johnson. Mary’s loving, kind demeaner will live on in those she is survived by, daughter Sarah Josselet, grandson Mike Norman and his wife Kimber Norman, granddaughter Keri Cauthorn and her husband Guy Cauthorn, granddaughter Sharla Norman, great grandchildren Drew Cauthorn, Sidney Cauthorn Aquino and her husband Michael Aquino, Emily Norman, and all the many wonderful friends whose lives Mary touched throughout the years. Again, the family would like to thank the incredible care givers at Granite Mesa for taking such amazing care of our Granma. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, due to the pandemic. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation in Mary’s name to Local Missions, First Baptist Church Marble Falls, 901 La Ventana Dr., Marble Falls, TX 78654. A private burial was held Saturday, January 30, 2021. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes, Haskell.
