DR. CECIL BURT HALSELL OCTOBER 1, 1959 - MARCH 13, 2023
On Monday, March 13, 2023, Dr. Cecil Burt Halsell passed away in Lovington, New Mexico. Cecil was just 63.
Cecil was born on October 1, 1959, in Brownfield, Texas to Lonnie and Kitty (Thomas) Halsell.
Cecil was raised in Brownfield, Texas and graduated from Brownfield High School. After high school he moved to Andrews, Texas briefly, then his adventurous spirit took him to Artesia where he spent fourteen years working in the oilfield and eventually met the love of his life, Claire Nelms. Cecil and Claire were married on September 25, 1993, in Artesia.
In 1994, a new adventure was calling, Cecil decided to change careers and enrolled in Chiropractic School. He attended Eastern New Mexico University – Roswell, New Mexico Junior College, and ultimately finishing at Parker University in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Cecil and Claire found themselves headed back to Southeastern New Mexico (Lovington) to work at Atchley Chiropractic where he eventually took over the practice and later became Halsell Family Chiropractic.
Both Dr. Cecil and Claire ultimately decided Lovington was their home and place to be. In 2009, Cecil and Claire were blessed with their daughter, Calista and in 2022, Charlie Mya joined their family. Dr. Cecil participated in several clubs and organizations within the community of Lovington including EDC of Lovington, Rotary Club and Lovington Chamber of Commerce. For ten years, he volunteered for the Wildcat Football Boosters. He would spend his Friday afternoons helping the Wildcat Football Players by giving them an adjustment and then would be found later that evening on the sidelines running the touchdown cannon. Dr. Cecil was not only dedicated to helping our football athletes but all the school athletes who came through his door.
He believed in investing in the youth. From giving babies and children their first adjustments to watching them grow up in the community. Dr. Cecil wasn’t a man of many words but would step up and help with organizations especially when it involved helping our youth like LACES Light It Up Blue fundraiser or being the muscle behind Lovington Toy Tee Golf Tournament.
In their free time, Dr. Cecil and the family loved to travel, find new adventures and places to explore. From quick trips to Ruidoso to flying away to escaping on a pirate ship or relaxing on the beach, time spent with family was priceless.
Next to the time spent with his family, Dr. Cecil loved his patients. For over twenty-one years, he has done a job he loved for the people he wanted to see live happy, full lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Lonnie Leon and Kitty Beulah Halsell. He is survived by his wife Claire Halsell; two sons: Lee Halsell (Shawn), Dr. Nathan Halsell (Angela), two daughters: Calista and Charlie Mya; Five brothers: Dan Halsell (Ellen), Larry Halsell, Calvin “Pee Wee” Halsell (Maria), Brad Halsell, and Gary Halsell (David); two sisters: Brenda Keener (Greg) and Judy Dodson (Charles); four Grandchildren: Kacy Nicole Vasquez (Tyler), Jaron Halsell, Taylan Blackford (Colton), Kailey Halsell; Five Great-Grandchildren: Elijah Vasquez and soon to be born C.
