Sherlyn Rae Sherrin was born December 9, 1946, to Tom and Dirlye (Lowrey) Gray in Brownfield, TX. She married Jimmie Sherrin on March 31, 1967, in Tokio, Texas during a really bad sandstorm. My mom graduated from Plains High School in 1965. She earned her cosmetology license shortly after graduation. After she and my dad were married she would “do” hair in their home. From what I understand, all the ladies would take turns holding me until it was their turn. I am sure that a lot of laughter, tears, and loved were shared among them. In 1981-82, she began working at the Tokio Coop Gin keeping the scales. She was promoted to bookkeeper after her first season. She loved working at the gin and helping all of the farmers for 29 years. Mom truly encompassed small community life and values. She was the heart and soul of the Tokio community for a long time. She took care of her customers, my dad, and me without complaint day in and day out. She enjoyed going to Ruidoso, staying at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, looking out at the lake, and winning money of course.
Mom and Dad shared 43 year of marriage. They made sure I was raised in the Tokio Baptist Church and many lasting memories were made. Mom made the most of her time on Earth loving her family and friends. Her heart was made of gold and her word was a solid bond. She will truly be missed by many. Mrs. Sherrin is survived by her daughter, MaDawn Sherrin; sisters, Georgia and her husband, Dewey Bruner and Vickie and Steve Gayle; nephew, Shawn and his wife Carla Gayle; niece, Brandi Gayle; great-niece, Emily and great-nephew, Elijah.
Sherlyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jimmie Sherrin; father and mother-inlaw, Stubby and Marguerite Sherrin; and nephew, Pepper Goertz.
