Jimmy Carlton Sterling

Jimmy Carlton Sterling was born to the late Ruby and Earl Sterling in November of 1941 in Paris, TX. He passed away September 13, 2018 in Brownfield. His family moved to West Texas in 1951. He graduated from Seagraves High School in 1960 and married his classmate, Bernice Allen. The couple had three daughters: Carla McDaniel of Atlanta, Georgia, Bliss Sterling of Lubbock and Cathy Sterling of San Antonio. Jimmy started work as a young teen operating the projector at the Pix movie theater in Seagraves. After marrying, he worked for Columbian Carbon Company and then Shell Oil Company, in Denver City, for 26 years, until retirement. He was JP of Gaines County, Precinct 2, for 5 years and was Citizen of the Year in 2002. Jimmy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church. In 2004, he moved to Brownfield where he had part time jobs. His favorite pastime was meeting friends at McDonald’s. He loved his family, and his dogs were the source of his joy. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Terry Allen Ferguson, son of his daughter, Bliss. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Bernice of Brownfield, his three daughters, two grandchildren; Tiffani Sterling of Lubbock and Trey Sterling of Dumas, TX, four great grandchildren, a sister Carol House and nephew Mickey Sneed, both of Brownfield. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel in Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to both First United Methodist Churches of Seagraves and Brownfield or Brownfield Animal Shelter.
