Read moreThe Brownfield Cubs tennis team made history in their program when they earned a 4A district championship, and earned the district’s top seed in Class 4A playoffs all as a 3A school. For the second year in a row, the Cubs played in the Class 4A playoffs. Last year the team won a bi-district championship. Yet this year the Cubs made a deep playoff run winning the bi-district championship over Sweetwater and area championship over Clint before falling in the regional quarterfinals to Big Spring. The run was the furthest the Cubs have gone in Class 4A as a 3A school, and for the team it was an exciting run that they did not believe was going to happen.
Read moreDENVER CITY – The Brownfield Cubs and Denver City Mustang football teams met in a game with a playoff ticket and the No. 2 seed in district on the line Friday night at Mustang Stadium. This was also a rivalry game between the Cubs and Mustangs, and after a slow first half the two teams traded touchdown plays until the home team held on to secure a 37-23 win over Brownfield. The win puts Denver City at 3-1 and secures a playoff spot. Brownfield falls to 2-2 and No. 3 in district, and waits to see if Lamesa won their game to secure a playoff spot. It also makes the district finale a must win for the Cubs as they look to secure the No. 3 seed and avoid playing a district champion in the bi-district round.
