The Uvalde school board delayed the start of the school year to Sept. 6, giving families and the district more time to prepare following the tragedy. With so much tension in the air for Uvalde, Brownfield students along with other students at schools across Texas wore maroon and white on Tuesday in support of Uvalde to show the school district that they aren’t alone in this time of need. The Brownfield News went out to the Brownfield Middle School to speak to Principle Artemio Ontiveros, “Uvalde started school on Tuesday after the tragedy that happened last year and we along with Texas wanted to show some support for the people in Uvalde. It’s always good to showcase that our kids are caring kids. You know they care about these things. We as a district have been improving on our security measures so we don’t have those tragedies and our kids know that and are responding well and I am really proud of how many people wore maroon and showed their support for Uvalde”. To show support for the return of Uvalde students and staff, several school districts all across Texas posted on social media, asking their students and staff to wear maroon and white. Principle Ontiveros added, “Brownfield ISD took to social media and just encouraged us and the students in all campuses to wear maroon to support the community of Uvalde”.
Read more(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds families that enrollment in the Texas Tuition Promise Fund, the state’s prepaid college tuition plan, began Sept. 1 and runs through Feb. 28, 2023. The Texas Tuition Promise Fund offers parents and loved ones the chance to prepay a child’s future higher education at Texas public colleges and universities at today’s prices, excluding medical and dental institutions. The $25 application fee to enroll in the plan will be waived for September and October enrollments (must be postmarked by Oct. 31, 2022).

Read moreThe rain this week has been a blessing for farmers but itjs caused serious problems on Browneld roads and in the surrounding area. An ambulance from Andrews driving on US 62/385 through Wellman, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 hydroplaned on the wet highway causing the ambulance to slide into the median and roll on the passenger side. That's according to the Terry County Sheriffjs Dept. Also, two vehicles tooded and stalled in the Draw on South 8th Street in Browneld while another vehicle stalled out on 6th and Reppto. The ambulance was transporting a patient along with an adult female passenger that was accompanying the patient to a Lubbock hospital. BRMC EMS responded to the scene and transported both the patient and the adult female to a Lubbock hospital with unknown injuries. The two EMTs with the Andrews ambulance were also transported by EMS and taken to BRMC with unknown injuries. Browneld Police Chief Tony Serbantez told The Browneld News, l We urge people to be safe on the streets when rain falls. When you are traveling around make sure to stay on high ground and if possible try to avoid the tood areas. This will pass so stay calm and be safe.'
