Smith takes the reins at BISD

There was an excitement in the air at the regular meeting of the Brownfield ISD School Board on Monday night. There was much routine business before the board called for a short executive session, which the lone finalist for the job of Superintendent was asked to attend.

Tuesday is tax filing deadline

Tennis team wins District again

April 9, 2018

One of the winningest sports programs in Brownfield High School’s long history added yet another gold ball to its impressive trophy case this week.

The Brownfield Cubs tennis team captured its sixth consecutive district championship on Thursday, capped by a nail-biting doubles win over Levelland to claim the title.

Head Coach Rich Hammons told the Brownfield News that Thursday’s District 2-4A tournament, held in Seminole, was “the most exciting that I have been a part of.”

“We were right down to the wire with a pair of sophomore girls on the court and the District title on the line,” he said.…

Municipal election in one month

Dollar Tree plans store

Local shoppers could soon have a new bargain retailer to choose from after the Brownfield Industrial Development Corp. approved a utilities incentive last week to help attract the national chain.

Developers expect to locate a Dollar Tree store on a long-vacant lot on South 1st Street.

BIDC board members unanimously approved a $100,000 grant to assist the project, however the incentive must be okayed by the City Council.…

Town mourns local student

A local family and a Brownfield ISD campus are grappling with the loss of one of their own over the weekend, following the untimely death of a 14-year-old boy.

Funeral arrangements are underway for Michael “Baby” Martinez and his bereaved family is seeking donations to help cover burial expenses.
