JACK THOMPSON, 1923-2013

U.S. Veteran Services for Jack Thompson, 89, of Brownfield will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownfield with Rev. Steve Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Terry County Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.


A family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Brownfield Funeral Home.


Jack Thompson was born on December 18, 1923 to Ed and Susie Lea Thompson in Johnson County. He moved with his parents to Brownfield in 1930. Jack graduated from Brownfield High School. 


He married Reta Cornebise on March 28, 1951 in Brownfield. He farmed in the Harmony Community in Terry County until 1977. Jack was manager of Pool Gin for 13 years until his retirement in 1991. He served on the board of directors of Pool Gin and was a World War II Army Veteran. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church. 


Jack was preceded by his wife Reta Thompson on February 28, 2007 and two sisters, Gene Yeager and Billie Earnest.


He is survived by his two sons, Jimmy and Karen Thompson of Brownfield, Darwin and Anna Thompson of Artesia, N.M.; a daughter, Debra Duncan of Autlan, Mexico; six grandchildren, four great-grand children and two sisters, Madelyn Kline of Jacksboro and Shelby Davis of Lubbock.
