Broncos to face top rivals

Broncos to face top rivals
The Meadow Broncos contemplated how to earn a second-half comeback during a recent game. The Broncos will take on longtime rivals the Ropes Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home.

Meadow football has so far had another mainly-successful season, but this one pretty much comes down to Friday.

Their second week into district, the Broncos (6-1) will face the biggest rivals on their schedule when Ropes travels across the Hockley-Terry County line to give them their  toughest competition of the season. And with a victory against Anton - their second-hardest district opponents - already under their hooves from last week and easier opponents Lubbock-Harmony and Whiteface the only ones left on the list, Friday will pretty much determine who will later receive the trophy.

"This definitely will be the game for the district title,” said Meadow head coach Kent Allison. "Right now all we care about is winning the Ropes game. This is it - what we’ve been building up to all year.”

Star running backs Andrew Flores and Zach England are both out with injuries, but that still leaves a full herd of other Broncos willing to soar past the visiting Eagles.

"We’ve got a bunch of kids that have been stepping up all year long, and that’s what we expect to happen at this game,” Allison said.

Allison also said he anticipates the Eagles to run their typical tight offense, and try some spread formation if necessary.
"They do the things that Ropes does, and we’re going to do what we do,” he said. "It boils down to who plays harder and who wants it more.”

Kickoff time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Bronco Stadium.
