Brownfield Education Center Class of 2016 earns diplomas

Twenty-Seven young men and women received Brownfield High School diplomas on Thursday evening, May 26 in ceremonies held at the BMS Auditorium.

Summer food program starts

The “Kids Cafe” Summer Feeding Program, sponsored by the USDA will begin in Terry County on Wednesday, June 1.

This is a hungry kids initiative and is completely funded by the USDA.

This program is for children age 0 – 18, according to the regulations. However, baby food is not one of the foods that will be served.…

Cub Gym makeover

Brownfield High School’s Cub Gym, one of the most familiar gathering spots in the city, is getting a much-needed makeover and maintenance in the coming weeks.

The gym, home to the 1988 State Champion Lady Cubs, and most recently the 2016 State Champion Runnin’ Cubs, is scheduled for a new paint job and safety measures, as well as score boards and scorers table.…

TCU beats Oklahoma State 13-5

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — TCU rallied with nine runs in the eighth inning to beat Oklahoma State 13-5 Thursday in the Big 12 tournament.

Back-to-back homers from freshman Luken Baker and sophomore Evan Skoug helped the Horned Frogs (40-14) rally with two outs in the eighth.

Baker had three hits and has now reached base safely in 26 straight games.…

Odor expects to be suspended for a couple of games

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Rangers infielder Rougned Odor said he expected to be suspended for punching Toronto’s Jose Batista during Sunday’s game in Arlington. Odor said he doesn’t regret it.

Friends and family will gather at 7 p.m. Friday in the Meadow Gym to watch 17 senior Broncos walk the stage.

The invocation will be offered by Rosie Bustillos followed by the class history from Trey Herrera.

Commissioners approve lease for 4H gun range

The Terry County Commissioners Court met and approved the lease of land owned by Terry County to the Terry County 4H Club for a shooting range for the 4H Shooting Sports program.

The land is a former caliche pit located in the Johnson area. Formerly used as a caliche pit by the commissioners, the pit has not been used in some time, and AgriLife Extension Agent Zach Bradshaw, who is leading the Shooting Sports Program feels that it will be perfect for what the group needs.…
