Cats head to Welch with playoffs in sight

After falling to State ranked Sands last week, Head Coach Tommy Tritz’s Wellman-Union Wildcats will be looking to get back on the winning track as they head to Welch to face the Dawson Dragons.

Lady Cubs fall to Lady Mats

The Brownfield Lady Cubs volleyball team were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday as they fell to the Lady Mats from Estacado by a score of 23-25, 25-27 and 16-25.

The Ladies needed to win out to have a shot at the playoffs. The Estacado game at home was the lone district victory for the young Lady Cub team.…

Lady Cats make historic run to the playoffs

The Wellman-Union Lady Cats did something this week that has never been done before. By beating Rotan in volleyball, the Ladies qualified for post-season play for the first time in history. Amazing, considering the program is only in its fourth year.

Seniors Jordan Conner and Danae Steiger have been with the program since its beginning, and are getting to enjoy the fruits of their labors.…

Lady Cubs fight hard against Seminole

The Lady Cubs played a tough Seminole Maiden volleyball team to a close three set match on Tuesday night. The scores for the match were 25-22, 25-12 and 25-18.

Leading the way with six kills was Gisella Martinez, followed by Emma Powell and Zayrian Martinez with three a piece.

Taryn Longoria had 16 set assists and Abigail Saenz had an impressive 21 digs.…

Commissioners hear indigent defense report

The Terry County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, October 24 and worked a short agenda.

Along with routine items, the Court approved the 2017 Terry County Resolution Indigent Defense Grant Program. This grant pays counties back a portion of the money spent on attorneys for indigent representation.

County Auditor Jan Hudson stated so far this year, the county has spent $180,000 for indigent representation.…

Council approves land deal

Following a brief discussion Thursday morning, the Brownfield City Council agreed to pay $22,500 for “the final piece of the puzzle” of the planned Duck Pond expansion.

The council ratified the deal negotiated by city officials with Len Harlan to purchase the 1.5 acre tract at the northwest corner of Gilham Park at the corner of Tahoka Hwy and Sage.…
