Local jobless rate up

The Texas economy expanded in June for the 12th consecutive month with the addition of 40,200 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs.

Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 4.6 percent, down from 4.8 percent in May.

Locally, the unemployment rate is above the state average at 6.0 percent.

Terry County recorded a labor force of 5,327 working age adults in the month, of whom 5,008 were gainfully employed.…

The accolades continue to come in for the The Brownfield Cubs following the 2017 baseball season.

Tennis wrap up

The Brownfield Cubs tennis team took 10 qualifiers to the 4A regional tournament, hosted at the McLeod Tennis Center, on the campus of Texas Tech University.  

The Cubs fought hard as their season came to an end with fierce competition all around.

The Lady Cats of Wellman-Union finished in 4th place in the Whiteface Antelope Relays with 75 points.

Gracen Key: 1st in the 3200 m run, 800 m dash, and 1600 m run (new meet record of 5:55.41)
Danae Steiger:  1st in the 100 m hurdles and 3rd in the 300 m hurdles

Sales Tax Holiday slated Aug. 11-13

A Brownfield man accepted a plea bargain last week that will send him to prison for 10 years.
